Working with farmers...

Working in partnership with farmers for over 55 years, at FWAG South West we understand the needs of farming businesses. Our team of over 50 advisers and project officers can provide independent advice on a wide range of services to inspire and enable you to develop and deliver a vision for farming and wildlife on your farm.

We pride ourselves on our reputation, having worked with many clients for decades. We provide a range of bespoke services that can be tailored to your needs as either a one-off piece of work or annual service.

“You have been instrumental in helping shape Frampton Court Estate in the last few years with encouragement and enabling me to push conservation, whilst also increasing income substantially” Peter Clifford, Frampton Court Estate.
“You are a great help to us as HLS Agreement holders, as your previous colleagues have most certainly been. FWAG has been the glue that has held the many different agreement holders together, putting people in touch in what otherwise may well be far less of a mutually beneficial farming community, which is especially needed right now” J & B

Farm Conservation Awards

Our annual farming and wildlife awards recognise and celebrate commercial farms that have successfully combined food production with sustainability, environmental protection and wildlife gains.  The competitions are at the core of delivering our charitable aims as they are a great opportunity to build strong relationships between farmers and the wider community, showcasing the wonderful conservation work many farmers carry out.

County Competitions – Each year we run farm conservation awards in four counties, aimed at commercial farms of any size. We welcome nominations up to the 30th April with judging takes place in the summer. We encourage the winners to share the work they have been doing on their farm with the opportunity to host a farm walk and work with our advisers to showcase best practice.  Winning farms are also automatically entered into the region-wide Barn Owl Award the following year.

Barn Owl Award

The Barn Owl Award is FWAG SW’s flagship award to celebrate the best of farmland conservation and positive environmental practices across the region.  The winning farms from our four county awards; the Gloucestershire Silver Pintail, the John Whetman Devon Bronze Otter, the Cornwall Otter and the Somerset Otter, are automatically entered into the regional Barn Owl Award each year.  As Dorset and Wiltshire do not have county awards, farmers in these counties can apply directly to be their county’s entry in the regional Barn Owl Award. The final decision as to who is the county’s entry will be made by local FWAG South West advisers.

National Silver Lapwing Award

The Silver Lapwing is a prestigious national award that recognises farmers who go that extra mile to protect and enhance the countryside in which they farm, demonstrating how high-quality food production exists hand-in-hand with sound environmental management.

The winner of our regional Barn Owl Award goes on to represent the south west region in the FWAG Association’s Silver Lapwing national award!  The 2026 Silver Lapwing Award is kindly sponsored by Land App and Frontier Agriculture.
