Louise Wallace has worked for FWAG SW as our Education Officer for 10 years. Her main role is to coordinate the Kingfisher Award Scheme in Somerset, offering opportunities for over 250 primary school children each year to get out onto a farm, get their hands dirty, connect with nature and learn about where food comes from.
A few months ago Louise was invited to join the Cornish Mutual Farming Focus podcast alongside Farmer Time founder Tom Martin.
Louise touched on the importance of moving with the times – connecting with children in different ways and appreciating that not everyone learns in the same way. She also highlighted the challenges of getting children out of the classroom – transport costs in particular can be a barrier to many schools offering these kinds of outdoor education opportunities.
